FAQ

Common Questions

Is my file stored on your servers?

No. Files are processed entirely in-memory on Cloudflare's edge network and discarded the moment your download begins. Nothing is logged, stored, or retained — not even temporarily.

My file is encrypted — what do I put in the password field?

Enter the file open password — the one Excel prompts you for when you try to open the file. If your file opens without a password but editing is blocked, leave the field blank; XLockFree will remove those locks automatically.

After downloading, Excel still asks for a password. Why?

Make sure you are opening the downloaded file (named unlocked_…), not your original. If the problem persists, the file may have multiple layers of protection — check the unlock report badges shown after processing to see exactly what was removed.

What is the maximum file size?

Files up to 95 MB are supported. XLockFree warns you before uploading if a file exceeds this limit. Most Excel files are well under 10 MB, so this limit is rarely an issue in practice.

Does it work on Mac, Linux, and mobile?

Yes — XLockFree runs entirely in your browser and works on any device or operating system. Processing happens on Cloudflare's global edge network, so performance is consistent regardless of where you are.

I have multiple files with different passwords. Can I unlock them in one go?

Batch processing supports multiple files, but a single password is applied to all encrypted files in the batch. If your files have different open passwords, unlock them in separate sessions — one password per batch.
